My Inspiration

Hello! My name is Vihan Jayawardhane and I am the designer of the CraftMap.

I'll admit, I wasn't the best artist. However, despite what my art implied, I was always interested in taking a step back from tricky addition and subtraction problems and opening my Dot-to-Dot book. Over time, I grew to appreciate different styles of art, including origami and DIY paper construction.

Art

At the onset of the pandemic, I volunteered to instruct virtual classes - whether to help others master a tricky subject from school or to take a step back from academics and do some art. As the pandemic raged on, I continued to reach out, teaching even more students and teaching classes at libraries across the country.

Teaching

Ever since I was five and was able to open an atlas, I have had an interest in maps. While I likely gained interest because of the colorful pages at first, I began to look into each states' history and famous people whose legacy had forever changed America.

My first business venture began in ninth grade, where with a few friends, we created a tutoring company. Despite being almost entirely a remotely-run startup, I found the "hands-on" qualities of setting a company up for success and most importantly teach students in an effective and meaningful way.
